| Newtown Silver Band was formed in 1880 and is now celebrating over 125 years of continuous service to the area. Our main aim is to be professional in everything we do and to attain the highest musical standards possible. |
Our Musical Director is Mr Steve Edwards who has been associated with the band for over 30 years and with him at the helm we have developed very quickly since his return in 2004. We are a completely voluntary band of people from all backgrounds who get together for the fantastic pastime/addiction(!) of making music. We have players of all ages, some who have been with the band for over 50 years and others who are still teenagers.
We are classed in Section 2 of the Brass-banding structure which operates a league system based on contest results throughout the year. Having won the Welsh National Section 3 title twice in 2004 and 2005 and qualified to represent Wales in the UK National Championships at Harrogate in both years we
were promoted to our current division.
Our contest season consists of attending the Welsh Regional Championships at Brangwyn Hall, Swansea in March, National Eisteddfod in August (the only brass band broadcast live on TV) and the North Wales Championships in November. However, the band competes at several others on an ad-hoc basis.

THE BAND |
The full band consists of 28 players and we are seen throughout Mid Wales and beyond; Newtown Remembrance Day and Carnival, Llanidloes and Rhayader Carnivals, Newtown Xmas Lights and many engagements at Montgomery and Welshpool to name but a few. We have also had the honour in recent years of performing a concert in the park at Wolverhampton.

We play a huge variety of music as the following list shows: |

We play at over 20 engagements every year including carnivals, military marches, indoor/outdoor concerts and also more recently at the opening of a large local retail outlet with Charlie Dimmock of 'Ground Force' Fame (no less, uh um). We also have the ability to offer a 10-piece band for engagements of a more informal nature.

REHEARSALS & JUNIOR BAND |
We rehearse every Thursday at 7.30pm and more in the lead-up to contests.
We also run a junior band which is free of charge to all children in the area. The learners are led by Mr Alan Breeze and the main junior band is led by Steve Edwards. The junior band rehearses every Thursday evening at 6.30pm with all welcome.
The strength of the band is the teamwork and camaraderie that exists as a result of supporting each other musically and we welcome all new members of all standards to come along to rehearsals. If you would like to join a progressive and friendly band in Mid Wales then please email our Musical Director
or call him on 0787 508 1889.
Thanks again for visiting our website and we look forward to seeing you soon.
