NEWTOWN (MID WALES) MARCH AND OPEN AIR CONTEST 2022 |
Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel this year's Newtown March Contest which was to be held on the 12th of June. Sadly, there will be no carnival or band contest this year. Hopefully, we will return next year!
Welcome to the website of the Newtown Silver Band (NSB).
We hope you will find it informative, interesting, entertaining and easy to use.
Newtown Silver Band is a 3rd Section band playing in a market town situated in North Powys in picturesque and beautiful Mid Wales. The Newtown Silver Band was established in 1880 and has given unbroken service to Newtown and District having celebrated its 125th Anniversary in 2005. Throughout the years it has achieved many successes on the contest stage and is in great demand locally for concerts, carnivals and parades etc.
During the 1950's and 60's it achieved many notable successes including a win in the Denbigh Contest and in 1958 became Northwest Area Champions in Manchester qualifying for the Finals at RAH later that year. The band at that time was a member of the North Wales Brass Band Assoc.
In 1982 the band joined the Southeast Wales BBA and then competed at many venues within the Southeast and West Wales Area, again achieving many successes in the contest field and represented Wales at the finals of the National Championships both in London and Harrogate on several occasions.
Recently the band rejoined the North Wales BBA where it will once again be competing in events in the north. The band is currently in the Third Section nationally and is constantly striving for further success in the future.
